Newsletter: Spring 09
Spring is coming and when it comes to FLEAS, prevention is better than cure!
If you have been a bit remiss with your flea treatments over the winter, you’re not alone. While fleas are still around during the colder months, the eggs that they lay don’t hatch due to the low temperatures. This means pets tend to carry fewer adult fleas and are therefore less affected by them.
Stop fleas in your house!
Ideally, flea treatments should be continued throughout the winter. Why? Because left untreated, those few fleas currently on your pet will lay 50 EGGS PER DAY. It’s not hard to see why only one or two fleas on your pet during the winter months can add up to a lot of eggs in your house! With the first signs of warmer weather, these eggs will hatch and suddenly your pet will be scratching or biting … and you’ll be wondering where all the fleas came from.
By reducing egg numbers you will significantly reduce flea numbers on your pet.
SOLUTION?
If you have this problem or want to prevent it, pick up some flea bombs from us and let them off in your house in early spring. By reducing egg numbers you will reduce adult flea numbers on your pet significantly, but remember with bad infestations you may need to use the bombs twice, two weeks apart.
If you haven’t been doing so, you should also start using a good top spot treatment on your pet like Advantage, Advocate, Revolution or Frontline spray, You may need to use them every 2-3 weeks (rather than the 4 week treatments recommended), until things have settled down, or if the weather is hot. |
