About HKA

Who we are

Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Association (HKA) is a voluntary, non-government organisation (NGO) that was formed to assist individuals having a psychiatric disability - and their families to realise their life goals.

An elected committee of experienced people having a direct knowledge of schizophrenia and other psychiatric conditions manages HKA.

HKA is a member of the Mental Health Co-ordinating Council of NSW, a body that advises the NSW Government on the needs of the mentally ill.

What we do

HKA's aims are to provide support and information to residents of the Hornsby and Ku-ring-gai area about mental health issues and activities.

  • Provide a meeting place for sufferers, friends and relatives.
  • Access educational and therapy programs and provide a library of useful materials
  • HKA has regular meetings with the local Mental Health Services.
  • HKA delegates participate in Area and State organisations concerned with mental health.
  • The Association raises money to fund local recovery programs.
  • It participates in initiatives to secure better housing and job opportunities for consumers.
  • Assists in achieving a range of accommodation options for sufferers
  • Seeks help from government and private enterprise for the employment of sufferers
  • Supports research into the causes, treatment, management and rehabilitation of mental illness.
