News from the Mental Health Service

1. Welcome to the Psychiatric Registrars: Dr Richa Rastogi, Dr Gokan Sayram and Dr Esther Musery

As part of an improved Orientation Package, representatives from the arms of Service, Client and Carer Groups spoke individually to the doctors. HKA Rep, Judy Thompson introduced the registrars to our Association and what we can offer the Mental Health Community.

The doctors were positive in their acknowledgement of the value of support and education for clients and families, and of the value of families as a valuable resource in the management of mental illness.

2. Family Group Sessions at LMU for families of newly admitted patients are proving popular and beneficial. Contact Leonie Pike or Diba Purmond at the MHS.

3. RCA (Root Cause Analysis) of Incidents (patient related)

The HKMHS has conducted an 18 month review and follow-up of recommendations. Management and monitoring is in progress.

4. Meetings between the Emergency Dept. of the HK Hospital, the local Police and the MH Service are addressing a number of issues which have been tabled.
