Welcome to New Psychiatric Registrars
Welcome to our new Psychiatric Registrars who have joined our MHS for the next six months. As part of their orientation program, representatives from both the Client Network and HKA met with these doctors to familiarise them with our Association's aims and activities.
We wish them a successful and productive time in working with our clients and families.
Medical Director:- Dr. Ranelle Gunawardene has taken up this position for 6 months. We also welcome Dr Jenny Jordan who is joining the Service as Consultant to the Acute Community Mental Health Team, and a new Occupational Therapist who will join the Lindesay Madew staff on 6 February.
Clinical Redesign
To lessen the "Access Block" for MH patients (where a patient has waited longer than 8 hours in the Emergency Department (ED)), an Evening Ward Clerk - a MH clinician - will be appointed to work in the ED to do assessments of patients. This will occur daily between 4.00 pm and 11.00 pm. A position is being advertised.
This is aimed at having two effects: 1. Decrease a patient's waiting time in the ED 2. Free-up the clinical hours of the Acute Community Team by removing the need for that Team to undertake ED assessments during this normally busy period.
This, combined with a review and new management of Admission and Discharge, and Post-discharge Planning, is aimed at maximising the benefits of care of the patient, for the patient. We welcome these aims. |
