Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital Mental Health Services

1. The PECC Unit - Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre will open in October '06. It will have two emergency beds and is for Hornsby Ku-ring-gai MHS/Hospital use. See further info below.

2. The MHIC Unit: The Mental Health Intensive Care Unit will be constructed on the Hornsby campus. It has been passed by Council and is out for tender. It will be used for short term Intensive Care and will be used as a Northern Sydney, Central Coast facility. It will have 12 beds.

3. Welcome to BELINDA PLAZA, who comes to us from the Lower North Shore Sub-area and is now the Rehab. Program Acting Team Leader while Jenny Kemp is on Maternity Leave.

4. There is a proposal to have Photo Identification attached to a patient's Medical record, while he/she is a patient in the Mental Health ward. It's purpose is for better, safer care treatment. This will occur with the patient's permission.

5. Figures on Waiting Time in the Emergency Department for MH patients has shown a drop to almost nil - due to new procedures.

6. Speaker for August General Meeting: NISAD - the Australian Research group into Schizophrenia and Allied Disorders will be represented by Mrs YEN LIM - the co-ordinator of the "Gift of Hope" Program. She will speak about this Brain Donor Project and what sort of Research can be done with Brain Tissue. Please come along to be informed about hope for the future.
