David MacPhail DVM, MBA

Following his graduation from the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, Canada, David’s early experiences were in equine racetrack practice. After moving to Australia, he switched to solely companion animals. A growing interest in practice development led him to undertake a Graduate Certificate in Management (along with several other AVBA directors) and he followed this up by completing his Master of Business Administration degree at the International Graduate School of Business in Adelaide.

After many years in clinical practice, David established a consultancy providing management  and business advice to veterinary practitioners across the country. In financial terms, veterinarians have fallen behind our other professional colleagues and David feels passionately about reversing this trend. He feels strongly that all staff members, as well as owners, should be better rewarded and that this can only come from a progressive, pro-active and team-based approach to practice-building.

David is currently working towards this goal as the owner of the recently acquired Gawler South Small Animal Hospital, a Veterinary Surgeons Board Accredited Hospital.  He spends his time guiding and mentoring staff towards personal development and to be the ‘best they can be’. His aim is to see ‘Gawler South’ develop into one of the premier practices in South Australia by providing a gold-standard, client-focused service.

David is a founding member and director of the AVBA with joint responsibility for the Continuing Education portfolio. He has also been an AVA member since coming to Australia and served for several years on the AVPMA committee.

David can be contacted on Ph 0418 835 954 or at david.m@avba.com.au
