A New Generation in
Natural Pet Care

The intestines of healthy dogs and cats are home to billions of micro-organisms. Many different species exist in a delicate balance, with populations of good and bad microbes controlled by complicated influences we are only just beginning to understand.

What we do understand is that when the natural, healthy balance is disrupted, gut function is impaired and various problems can result.  Symptoms vary, but scouring is one of the most obvious indicators.

What is a Probiotic?

Probiotics are live microbial feed supplements which are used to restore the healthy balance of intestinal microbes.

What do Probiotics do?

Probiotics introduce large numbers of beneficial bacteria to the intestines. Once inside, there are a number of ways they can act to help the animal.

• They compete with bad bacteria for sites at which to attach to the wall of the gut,
• They neutralise the toxins produced by pathogenic microbes,
• They alter conditions in the gut to make them unfavourable for pathogenic microbes,
• They stimulate immunity to increase the animal’s resistance to disease.

What is PROTEXIN?

Protexin is a multi-strain probiotic, containing seven strains of bacteria, all of which occur naturally in the intestines of animals and birds. When fed as directed, Protexin restores the natural balance of intestinal microbes to improve health and resistance to disease.

When should Protexin be used?

Two of the most important factors responsible for changing the normal balance of gut microflora in adult dogs and cats are stress and antibiotics. Stress can occur as a result of pregnancy, changes in diet, environmental changes, extreme temperatures and vaccination.

Puppies and kittens are born with sterile guts. Protexin should be used immediately after birth to ensure that populations of healthy microbes are established as early as possible. Young animals should also receive larger doses of Protexin during weaning, castration and vaccination.

As pets in normal domestic situations are exposed to many potential sources of disease and stress, they should receive a maintenance dose of Protexin every day. This will ensure they have adequate numbers of beneficial bacteria in their digestive tracts and will help them to stay healthy.
