Implementation of ISO 19011

Some members of IAF have queried when ISO19011:2002 Guidelines for Quality and/or Environmental Management Systems Auditing comes into effect for implementation by accredited Certification/Registration Bodies (CRBs).

The Chairman of the IAF Technical Committee, Roger Brockway of UKAS, has confirmed that use of ISO 19011 is required for CRBs accredited to ISO/IEC Guides 62 and 66 as from the implementation of the latest issue of the IAF Guidance on the Application of these standards, IAF GD 2:2003 for Guide 62 (QMS CRBs) and IAF GD 6:2003 for Guide 66 (EMS CRBs).

IAF GD 2:2003 and IAF GD 6:2003 were issued by IAF on 1 November 2003 and are required to be implemented by 1 November 2004. Use of ISO 19011 in place of the superseded ISO 10011 series of standards and ISO 14010, 14011 and 14012 therefore becomes a requirement for accredited Certification/Registration Bodies as from 1 November 2004.

Copies of IAF GD 2:2003 and IAF GD 6:2003 are available from the  Publications page.
