The Maryborough “Ready Set Web” Season 2007 Soccer Competition June 16th 2007
Back At Peel Street.
Now that we are back at Peel street, things will change somewhat. Most importantly, we have to mark out the ground and set up the goals every week. Set up/Take down. Both teams scheduled for the first game should be there 15 mins early to set up. Both teams should assist with take down after the last game. Please be vigilant and ensure that all steel pegs are picked up and returned to the sheds. They can cause injury to players or become a danger when the ground is mown. Remember that the referee cannot start the game until everything is in place so please help in this regard
*Parking*
Please park in the street or high on the grass next to the U/11 pitch Under no circumstances should cars be driven onto the ground. This is part of our lease agreement with the School. Please co-operate.
At all times be aware that children are around: take particular care when reversing.
Training
Training for Under 11. Great to see so many coaches giving their time to run a training session. Coaches at U/11 might like to stress the following to their players. 1) Use of the head. If the ball is in the air either use your head or let it bounce - keep arms well away. This means that feet must be kept on the ground and not raised above knee height. 2) Offside is not called at this time but do not stand alone near goals - it’s a bad habit to break later in U/15 competition. A defender should always be closer to the goalie. (Later in the year we may start to play offside.) 3) Throw in going well. Two feet down and behind the head. 4) Goalies can throw the ball out if they don’t kick too well 5) Slide tackling is NOT allowed at this level (U 11). Too many injuries will be caused if players slide in at others. Referees have been instructed to stop play if this occurs and award a free kick. If players persist in sliding they may be removed from the ground.
Registrations
If anyone asks regarding new registrations, The Ctee has to report that we are bursting at the seams in both U 11 and U 15 comps. However, we are looking at setting up an informal training/skills/ game every Saturday behind the U 11 goals in the next couple of weeks (when we can get some portable goals) We will be encouraging the very young players who find it hard to get a kick in U 11 to take part in this game. Further news as soon as we can.
Reminder
Spectators at U/11 & /15 games are asked to stand at least one metre from the sideline. This is still very necessary at these grounds so please give the players some room.
