Players View : Maryborough looses grip on finals burst….

Maryborough under 13’s were dealt another blow on Sunday going down 2 nil to Ballarat Black at Jubilee Oval. The team started brilliantly with some of the best soccer we have seen from the group for this season. Training drills which have been constantly practiced starting to come through on Sunday and it was nice to see some other players getting involved in tackles, which strengthened the group.

One such player was Jordan Daly who as a defender did several combination plays with other players like Matty Gibbs who spent the first half playing left midfield a new position for him in which he equipped himself well. Brenton Walker did an outstanding job considering he was not well, suffering from flu, but still turned up and played the whole game as keeper. Daniel Carless playing midfield found the role demanding but still provided some good passing.

Maryborough kept the Ballarat team scoreless the first half and looked to have control of the game but some on field changes inside the first ten minutes of the second half gave Ballarat an opening that they to their credit took full advantage of it, scoring both goals. One came from Luke Moodley, the other from the boot of Albert Zhang. Maryborough regrouped and again kept control. Tristin Clark who has missed 2 weeks played hard and was injured late in the second half. Billy Gianacopoulos played his best game for a long time playing most of his game on the wing but was later moved up as striker.

Maryborough was not without scoring opportunities, Ty Crittle made every effort while playing striker and he was unlucky not to have converted goals. Ty was one of the best on the ground later moving into the left wing position. As the season draws to a close with only one round left of the home and away competition the Maryborough team can be proud of the fact that they have spent most of the season in the top four and for a period were only second to Warrnambool who have not yet lost a game. Most of the players will still be eligible to play together next season and they now have experience playing in the Ballarat league.

The team still has one last chance to play finals playing at home again this week. Support from everyone within the soccer community is asked for as they take to the field next Sunday kickoff being 10.15am.
