The Maryborough “Ready Set Web” Season 2007 Soccer Competition July 21st 2007
Two major announcements this week:
1. Football Federation of Australia affiliation.
Insurance through this body (via the BDSA) means that parents have to sign another registration form. We had no alternative as we were unable to insure ourselves. This won’t cost any more money this year (although increased fees will mean that the Committee will have to examine an increase next year) but all details have to be confirmed. Apologies if this is difficult for anyone, but Secretary Kirsty McDowell has done an enormous amount of work preparing the registrations so please ensure you catch up with her within the next week.
Today she is situated between the two grounds. These forms really do have to be signed before Saturday August 4th so please make the effort.
2. Junior comp. / Rooball.
It has been evident all year that some of the younger and smaller players are “lost” during a competitive game and often can get hurt by being hit by the ball because they cannot concentrate on the game for 30 minutes. (Under 11 Comp) The committee has set up an alternative for these youngsters and invites any player under 7 to take part. The ground is set up behind the under 11 pitch and every week there will be a game for two teams (or four if we get the numbers) beginning at 9.30 am. In this game (perhaps 5 a side) the younger players will get many possessions and begin to develop the skills needed for the under 11 comp. This comp will also give young players who have expressed an interest in refereeing a game, an opportunity to develop those skills as well. Parents and Coaches are encouraged to nominate players for this game. They can still maintain their affiliation to their original team but will not necessarily play with them every week. This week see Mark Rendell over by the “big nets” where teams will be organised. If you are here too late to participate this week, make a point of getting here early next week.
Other news items.
It doesn’t need to be said but players are part of a team and anyone who doesn’t turn up for their game is making it very difficult for their teammates. If unavailable, can you please contact your coach so that he/she is aware and can organise the team appropriately.
Reminder that teams have been put together by the Ctee in an attempt to make an even competition. Any late registrations need to be made through the Ctee and players may be allocated to teams they did not necessarily play with previously.
