UGC is a mainstream activity

Almost half of online users have accessed user-generated content (UGC) by either creating or reading material posted by others during the last month, Jupiter Research reports. In a study titled User-Generated Content: Strategies for Media Sites, JupiterResearch says that UGC is now a mainstream activity for millions of consumers. According to the study, Internet users under the age of 25 are especially active participants. Three-quarters of users 18 to 25 are reading or writing UGC, and few of them are passive participants.

Social Networking Popularity in Australia

MySpace is still the most popular social networking community in Australia.

FaceBook ranked 3rd in the Hitwise Social Networking Custom category, with 3.96% market share; behind MySpace (68.84%) and Bebo (13.05%) during the month of May 2007.

It was reported that Facebook, while still ranked third, week ending 16 June 2007, now accounts for 6.36% market share of visits.

Dane Carlson from Business Oportunities Weblogs created a great little applet that lets you calculate the monetary value of your blog.

The applet, How Much is Your Blog Worth, uses Technorati’s API which computes and displays the answer.

Cyberspace culture makes inroad into dictionary

The Collins English Dictionary announced that a string of cyber words would be included in their ninth edition.  These included "me-media", a term for personal content websites such as Facebook, and "godcast", a religious service which has been converted to an MP3 format.
