Readers Rate PR Influences

published December 2004

A survey of readers in October helped give worthwhile insights into the usefulness of ‘PR Influences’. This will help in planning the development of the newsletter and web site. A big thank you to all who responded.

Here is a summary of the feedback we obtained:

Rating of ‘PR Influences’

  • 90% of respondents rated it excellent or very good.
  • 46% think it is excellent and 44% very good.

Is ‘PR Influences’ a newsletter or a website, and how it is accessed?

  • 70% saw it as newsletter that is sent to them.
  • 30% see it as web resource they can access any time.

How do recipients read ‘PR Influences’?

  • 47% read what interests them immediately, as it hits their computer.
  • 39% read some articles immediately but refer to other articles between issues.

We asked respondents to rate which content areas they found the most useful and interesting. Here’s the ranking we got.

1.        Media

2.        Managing PR

3.        Marketing

4.        Corporate

5.        Measurement

6.        Programs

7.        Crisis & Issues

8.        Reputation management

How frequently do respondents wish to receive ‘PR Influences’?

  • 60% would like to receive it monthly
  • 21% prefer to receive it about five times a year (the current frequency).
  • 19% would prefer it every second month.

Interestingly,

  • 88% said they liked the style and length of content and didn’t want us to make any changes.
  • 80% said they had forwarded ‘PR Influences’ articles to colleagues.
  • Despite our concerns about the possibility of ‘PR Influences’ being treated as spam mail, 84% of those who responded said they had no concerns about this for the immediate future.

We also got some encouraging comments:

“This is a fantastic resource as I often find it difficult to access free information that is relevant to the Australian market”.

“This is a well put-together newsletter - which is no ....

“More efforts like this will materially contribute to ….

“I think ‘PR Influences’ is great.  I finished a PR degree last year and felt like I still didn’t have a grip on the industry.  This sheds a little more light into what I may be getting into as a career”.

That’s encouraging feedback.  It tells us that:

  • the format meets universal approval.
  • most everyone thinks it is very good or excellent.
  • most would like us to double the frequency of ‘PR Influences’ and produce it monthly!

One area we would like to work on is for recipients of ‘PR Influences’ to not just see it as an email newsletter. It’s also a website that contains a wealth of reference material that can be accessed at any time.

We will obviously ponder on what our readers are telling us as we look to improve ‘PR Influences’.  But we are also conscious that with any survey of this kind, those who respond are often the most enthusiastic - and represent a minority.  And we are cautious about making changes (eg: doubling our frequency to monthly) on the basis of just this feedback.

What about the majority who didn’t respond? If you are one of those, and you have views about ‘PR Influences’ please take 15 mins to give us your views.  Please click here to access the survey.
