The 7th National Public Affairs Convention

August 9-11 - Sydney

The 7th National Public Affairs Convention, hosted by the Walkley Foundation for Journalism and the Media Alliance, is recognised as Australia’s best value professional development event for external communicators.

This year’s convention will equip delegates with the tools to engage the public within the high-paced and increasingly digital media environment.

 Find out how:

  • Judy Goldman, the Former Group Publicity, Media and Communications Manager of the Commonwealth Games Corporation achieved the incredible media attention afforded to the Melbourne Commonwealth Games

  •  Sandi Logan, Assistant Secretary of the National Communications Branch for the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, plans to recover public trust in his Department after the Palmer/Comrie reports

  • Tourism Australia’s Andrew McEvoy managed the local and international media strategies during the ‘where the bloody hell are ya’ campaign

  • ANZ Bank’s Head of Corporate Communications, Paul Edwards is advancing the bank’s on-line PR strategy

  • Changes to free-to-air TV will affect its PR value, addressed by Telstra’s Rod Bruem

  • Issues and crisis management methods are evolving according to Kraft’s Andrew Kilsby

  • Unilever’s PR and marketing teams worked collaboratively on the innovative Dove ‘campaign for real beauty’

An extended media panel will allow delegates to learn from the other side of the media fence with the Nine Network’s Ross Greenwood, Stephen Mayne (founder of crikey.com.au), The Australian’s Michael Sainsbury, and The Sydney Morning Herald’s Elizabeth Knight.

The convention will be held August 10-11 at the Wesley Conference Centre, 220 Pitt St Sydney, with an opening cocktail reception at the Arthouse Hotel on August 9 and a formal dinner on August 10.
