GLORIA PETYARRE

Gloria is a spokeswoman for the Anmatyerre language group and one of the seven famous Petyarre sisters. From 1977-1987 she worked in Batik and  travelled with 'A Picture Story' through Ireland, Europe, India and USA. She began painting acrylic on canvas in 1988 with greater freedom of expression where her work developed from distinct Body Art to a more abstract expression of the land.

 Her first solo exhibition was in 1991 at the Australian National Gallery which lead to an exhibition in New York. In 1999 she was the first Aboriginal woman to win the Wynne Prize for Landscape from the Art Gallery of NSW. Collections include: National Gallery of Australia, Allen Alen and Hemsley, Museum of Victoria, Powerhouse Museum, Museum of Sydney, Westpac NY, Holmes a Court.
