Chemical Requirements
for your Swim Spa
(With Ozone Sanitiser)
(Swim spa water capacity is approx 7,000 litres for 4.5m model and 6000 litres for 4m model)
Chemicals needed for your swim spa:
- Test strips
- PH Alkalinity increaser
- Spa Magic
- Lithium Hypochlorite (chlorine)
- Spa shock
Start up:
· Test pH and Alkalinity with test strips. (red Green) Use test strips
Adjust pH to 7.6 and Alkalinity to 140 - add 90g per 1000 litres Use PH Alkalinity Increaser
Use approx 540g for Sydney Water. (1cap = 120g)
· Add 240g (2 caps) Lithium Hypochlorite to kill bacteria in the water initially. Use Chlorine.
Please Note: Do not use Bromine, sodium or calcium based chlorines as they can damage your jets and swim spa.
· When spa is at 30 degrees add 1 full litre of Spa Magic. Spa magic takes about 12 hours to mix thoroughly through the water and acts as a water softener, breaks down body fats, locks in the PH, helps stop foaming, protects your equipment, keeps pipe work and filters cleaner and helps remove undissolved solids out of the water.
Weekly:
· Check PH and alkalinity - adjust to pH to 7.6 and Alkalinity to 140 as indicated on container instructions.
· Add 90g Spa shock - turn jets and air on high and take cover off to allow contaminants to oxidize into the atmosphere. May need to be added twice weekly in summer months or with heavy use.
Note: Spa shock removes chloramines and bather load waste rapidly.
· If water is cloudy give a shock dose of Chlorine - approx 240g. (2 caps)
· Top up if the water level has dropped. This helps to freshen the water and give it a fresh turn over. Add small amount of spa magic after top ups.
After a Lengthy Session:
· If the water is cloudy add 120g to 240g of chlorine depending on bather load.
· If you have Ozone sanitiser you will still need to add chlorine. Ozone is a good back up sanitizer but may not be enough after a heavy bather load.
Heavy bather load = more than 2 people, can vary with heat of spa and length of time in the spa. Use your own discretion.
To Clean the Swim Spa:
· Clean any scum line with Bi Carb and chux rag - don’t add foreign chemicals to the water.
· Clean filters weekly with a high pressure hose. (Fortnightly ok if not heavily used)
· Clean diverters if stiff to turn per instructions given at start up.
· Oil cabinet when necessary.
· Protect your cover with 303 protectant. (available at Splashes)
· Keep sand out of the spa - vacuum with your spa wand (available at Splashes)
Please Note: Splashes offers this chemical instruction as a guide only. Please read all labels correctly and use your own discretion when using spa chemicals.
The amount and frequency of chemical usage will vary according to usage. |
