Questions We May Want to Ask

WHY do you want a piece of theatre in your building?

An organisation may want a creative interpretation for many reasons- sometimes to add to a special exhibition, event or festival, to fill a hole in their education remit, to encourage different types of audiences to visit, or to use as a travelling outreach event.  Knowing the reason why an organisation wants theatre within their museum or gallery gives Monsters and Mayhem a series of goals or aims to achieve in the production. 

WHAT INFORMATION are you looking to explore or communicate?

If you have information about the exhibition, event, or national guideline links, this can be useful to have from the beginning as it inevitably informs the entire process.

WHAT SCALE of performance are you looking at?

We can quote on a range of performance types.  Wandering individual characters, full productions with music and larger casts, travelling performances that fit in a small van with two performers, etc.  If you know what you are looking for, it helps us create a realistic quote.

Do you know WHERE it will be performed?

There are many possible venues within a museum or gallery.  Many will have theatre spaces and out door areas, many will have smaller nooks and crannies that visitors seem to miss more often then not.  We can work in almost any space and make our own suggestions, but if you already have a specific idea it is useful for us to know.

What can your organisation provide?

Some museums have exhibition designers, construction teams, a marketing department, sound and lighting equipment, and so on.  If you would like Monsters and Mayhem to work with some of your existing staff and equipment, this can be arranged and often reduces the external cost of a production.

HOW long do you want the piece to last?

School and general public performances often have to be restricted to a particular time, pieces for adults can be longer if it is a comfortable setting for the audience.

WHAT AUDIENCE are you seeking?

General public, schools, particular age ranges, special interest groups, etc.  The type of audience you are looking to attract will impact on the style of performance.

HOW MANY PERFORMANCES are you looking for?

Will it be throughout the summer, the whole of December, for one festival weekend, or an ongoing outreach program over school terms for a year?  Obviously, it makes it very difficult to quote on the costs of staging a piece and paying actors if we don’t know how long they will be employed for!

OTHER IDEAS you already have

Sometimes an organisation may have themes or characters they would like included, or other ideas staff members have had already.  These can often be included provided we know about them!

BUDGET RANGE

We can provide a quote in two ways- you can tell us what you require, and we can create a quote (using the above information), or if you would prefer, Monsters and Mayhem can also quote within a budget range.  If you have received a grant for a particular amount, we can let you know what sort of thing we could realistically provide for that amount.
